    Action Game: Pick sides

Object of the game: To collect as many pennies as they can in 1 minute.

Toss most of the pennies along 1 wall.
Toss the remaining pennies along the opposite wall.
Give each child a baggie to hold the pennies they collect.

  • Closing Discussion

  • Close in Prayer

  • Telling the Story:
Why did all of you pick this wall to run to?
Indicate the wall where they could take 3 pennies
Because it was the best deal. We could take more pennies from that side.
Just like you chose the wall where you could get the most pennies, we like to choose to be with people who make us feel special.
Think of someone you know who makes you feel special.
What is it about them that makes you feel special to them?
    Discuss kids answers
Because they always listen to me,
I know they love me, etc.
Today we're learning that Jesus wants us to feel special to him.
Last week we learned about a woman who tried to hide her troubles from Jesus and that Jesus wants us to tell Him all our troubles
Lay out the Promised land mat
This week we're going to learn about another woman.
The woman in today's story felt very special to Jesus.
I want you to listen carefully to find out why she felt so special to Jesus.
And listen to find out what she did for Jesus.
The Promised Land was very hot and sandy like a desert.
There weren't cars or trains or buses.
So most people walked everywhere they went.
Their feet got dirty, hot, and tired from walking.
So when they got to where they were going, they washed their feet.
If they were a guest in someone's home, a servant washed their feet for them.
In today's story Jesus was invited to eat at the house of a man named Simon.
Place some blocks together to make a table big enough for Jesus and 2 or 3 other figures.
Place some blocks around the table to represent a house:
Use only one layer of blocks to keep it low for the kids to see in,
Make a wide doorway for the woman to come in through.
Let's put Jesus here at the table:
Place Jesus figure at the table closest to the doorway
    Let's pretend this is Simon:
Place a Fisher Price or similar type figure to represent Simon at the head of the table.
The Bible tells us that there were others eating with them, too.
Place 1 or 2 figures around the table with them.
There was a woman in town who learned that Jesus was eating at Simon's house.
Place the woman figure outside the house.
This woman had done many, many wrong things.
    She wanted to see Jesus.
So she got a jar of perfume and went to Simon's house.
Walk the woman figure into Simon's house and have her stand behind Jesus.
She crouched at Jesus' feet and cried.
Place the woman figure face down next to Jesus.
She used her tears to wash Jesus' feet.
Then she dried his feet with her hair.
Then she kissed his feet many times and rubbed them with perfume.
Well Simon knew that this woman was an evil woman.
    Point out Simon figure.
He thought to himself, "Jesus wouldn't let a woman like that touch him if He was really from God."
But Jesus knew exactly what Simon was thinking.
So Jesus told Simon a story about a banker:
When people don't have enough money, they borrow money  from a banker. But they are always expected to pay it back.
Jesus said, "Simon, suppose one man borrowed  $1.00 from a banker.
And suppose another man borrowed $10 from the banker.
The time came for the 2 men to pay the banker back.
But neither man could pay the money back.
The banker was very kind and told both of them that they didn't have to pay the money back."
Then Jesus asked Simon,  "Which man would love the banker more?"
Simon answered Jesus,  "The man who owed him the most money would love the banker more."
"Yes." Jesus answered.  And this woman is showing me how much she loves me.
When I came into your house, you did not give me any water to wash my feet.
But this woman has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
You did not greet me with a kiss.
But this woman hasn't stopped kissing my feet.
This woman is showing me great love because she is forgiven for the many wrong things she has done.
But the person who is forgiven for only a few wrong things will show only a little bit of love."
Then Jesus told the woman, "Go in peace. You are forgiven."
Why did this woman feel so special to Jesus?
Because he forgave her for all the wrong things she had done.
What did this woman do for Jesus?
Washed his feet with her hair
Why did she wash his feet for him?
Because she loved him so much.
Why did she love him so much?
Because she felt his love for her and felt special to Him.
When we feel very special to someone what do we want more than anything?
We want to show that person that we love him/her
We want to be with that person,
We want to do special things for that person.
Jesus wants us to feel how special we are to Him.
There are 2 important things we can do that will help us to feel special to Jesus.
Do you know what those 2 things are?
    Pray everyday
Read the Bible or have someone read the Bible to us
Remind the children to ask their parents to read to them from their Bibles,
Remind them to give the Home Sower Papers to their parents.
I want you to think right now of a special place that's in your house, or maybe a little hideout in your yard where you can go to talk to Jesus:
    about your troubles,
to ask him to forgive you for the wrong things that you do,
to tell him about your day and the things that are important to you.
    Close asking Jesus:
To help us to pray to him everyday,
To read from the Bible everyday.
To help us feel how special we are to Him.
