palace |
Place the Babylon mat in the area of
the room where you plan to tell the story and have them build a palace from blocks right
onto the Babylon mat.
|
| Telling the Story: |
Let's put the palace that you made
right here.
-
Put the Lego palace that the kids made
in Babylon.
-
The king of Babylon was named King
Nebuchadnezzar.
-
Let's put him here in the palace.
-
Use the Pharaoh figure from the Egypt
unit to represent Nebuchadnezzar and place him in the palace.
-
This is one of the king's helpers.
-
Place a figure in front of the palace to
represent his helper.
-
Last week we learned about 4 young men
who were forced to leave the Promised Land and move to Babylon.
-
They were named Daniel, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego
-
Place the Daniel figure and 3 other
figures to represent Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego on the Babylon mat.
-
Who remembers why they were forced
to leave the Promised Land?
-
Because God's people would not stop
making and worshipping gods of wood and stone.
-
God let their enemies take over the
Promised Land.
-
King Nebuchadnezzar decided that he
wanted the princes from the Promised Land to have special training.
-
They were to be taught to speak the
same language as the king and to learn all about Babylon.
-
After their training was over he wanted
them to be his special helpers in his palace.
-
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
were chosen to get this special training.
-
Place their figures in front of the
palace near the king's, helper.
-
Part of their training required them to
eat the king's food.
-
Now back in the Promised Land God's
people had special laws about cleaning and cooking the foods they ate.
-
But the people in Babylon didn't follow
those laws.
-
This worried Daniel and his friends
because they wanted to obey God's food laws.
-
So Daniel asked one of the king's
helpers to feed them only vegetables and water so they wouldn't break God's laws by
eating foods that hadn't been cleaned and cooked the way God wanted.
-
Walk Daniel figure to king's helper.
-
The king's helper was afraid to feed
Daniel and his friends only vegetables and water.
-
If Daniel and his friends got sick, he
was afraid the king would kill him for not taking good enough care of Daniel, Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego.
-
So Daniel suggested to the king's
helper that he do an experiment and give them vegetables and water for 10 days.
-
At the end of 10 days he should check
them to see if they stayed healthy.
-
If they were not healthy then Daniel
and his friends would eat the king's food.
-
But if they were healthy, then Daniel
and his friends would not have to eat the kings food.
-
It would be okay for them to eat only
vegetables and water.
-
The king's helper agreed to this.
-
God kept them healthy and at the end of
10 days Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were healthier than
all the young men who ate the king's food.
-
So God helped Daniel, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego to follow his laws about food even in the far away land of Babylon.
-
At the end of their training Daniel,
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were brought before the king.
-
Walk the figures to the king.
-
King Nebuchadnezzar was very pleased
with them.
-
They were smarter than all his helpers
from Babylon.
-
| He picked them to work as his special
helpers.
Closing Discussion
-
If you had been Daniel, would you
have been scared to ask the king's helper to not make you eat the king's food?
-
Do you think Daniel was scared to
ask the king's helper to not make them eat the king's food?
-
God helped Daniel to not be afraid to
talk to the king's helper.
-
God helped Daniel to do what was right.
-
| Discuss times or situations when the
kids might have been afraid to do what was right.
Close in Prayer asking
God to help us do what's right and to be brave and speak up for what's right when we
should.
