| Action Game: Who Gets the
Biggest Coat? Have a relay race with 2 coats:
|
The object is for 1 team to end
up with the biggest coat.
| Telling the Story:
|
In today's story we're going to hear
about a coat.
We're also going to hear about
something big and something little.
Listen carefully to find out why there
is a coat in the story and to find out what is big and what is little.
-
Lay out the Promised Land mat.
-
Place the temple near the Dead Sea.
-
Place Solomon near the temple.
-
Last week we learned that Solomon
married princesses from far away lands.
-
These princesses convinced him to make
pretend gods.
-
Build towers of blocks and place them in
the Promised Land.
-
God was not happy with King Solomon for
making pretend gods in the Promised Land.
-
He warned King Solomon 2 times to stop
making pretend gods.
-
But King Solomon would not listen.
-
Finally God told King Solomon that he
was going to tear the biggest part of the kingdom away from him and give it to one of his
helpers.
-
That means that God was going to make
someone else king over the biggest part of the Promised Land.
-
This was Solomon's helper. His
name was Jereboam. We're going to call him Jerry.
-
Show children the man figure and place
him on the mat.
-
God sent a special messenger called a
prophet to talk to Jerry.
-
Show the children the prophet with the
construction paper coat and place the him on the mat.
-
The prophet was wearing a brand new
coat.
-
Point out the construction paper coat.
-
When the prophet found Jerry. He
did something really silly.
-
Walk prophet figure to Jerry
-
He took off his coat and tore it up.
-
Remove the construction paper coat and
tear it into 2 pieces:
-
1 very large piece
-
1 very small piece.
-
The prophet said to Jerry,
-
"King Solomon has been worshipping
pretend gods. So God is tearing the biggest part of the kingdom away from him
and giving it to you.
-
You are going to become the king
of the biggest part of the Promised Land"
-
Lay the biggest part of the coat at
Jerry's feet
-
"But God is going to let King
Solomon's family be king over a little part of the Promised Land because God had promised
Solomon's father that someone from his family would always be king."
-
Lay the small piece of coat at Solomon's
feet.
-
After King Solomon died, Jerry did
become the king of the biggest part of the Promised Land.
-
Place Jerry figure in the area above the
Dead Sea.
-
Lets pretend that this is Jerry after
he became king
-
Place Northern king figure in the
"Northern Kingdom" above the Dead Sea and remove the Jerry figure from the mat.
-
King Jerry was the king over this whole
part of the Promised Land
-
Point out the area of the mat from the
top of the Dead Sea all the way to the top of the mat above the Sea of Galilee
-
Let's make a wall separating the part
that Jerry was king of from the part that King Solomon's family ruled
-
Direct the kids to build a wall with a
row of blocks from the top of the Dead Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
-
King Solomon's son became king of the
small part of the Promised Land down here.
-
Point out the area from the Dead Sea to
the bottom of the mat.
-
Turn king Solomon around several times
to indicate that he died and his son became king in his place (or if you made a flip
figure, flip his cloak over his head.)
-
| Now there are 2 kings in the Promised
Land.
