    Today's story:

Abram moves to a new land,
    Genesis 12: 1-8
    Optional Memory verse:
Optional take home paper, The Home Sower
    God Always Keeps His Promises

  • Materials Needed:

    Cloth, Bible mat
    Abraham, (Abram) and Sarah figures,
    Building blocks,
Toy tree, or a branch stuck into a lump of play dough,
For enrichment add extra people (like Fisher Price), plastic
    sheep, donkeys, camels etc.

    Introducing the story:

Show the children the Abram and Sarah figures.

       Tell them:
"Today they are going to hear a story about a promise that God made to Abram. "
Discuss how it feels when someone makes a promise and doesn't keep it. It's important to always keep your promises.  God always keeps His promises.
  • Telling the Story: Familiarize yourself with the story of Abram and Sarah in Genesis 12: 1-8,
Act out the story of Abram and Sarah moving to the Promised Land, telling it  in your own words:
Lay out the Bible mat in one place with the tree near the Sea of Galilee
Have the kids build the town of Ur a little distance away from the cloth mat,
As you tell the story, let the kids move the Abram and Sarah figures to the Promised Land and "camp" under the tree.
For enrichment add plastic sheep, camels, etc. and extra people (Fisher Price or similar) to be servants.
Be sure to emphasize God's promise to give this special land to Abram.
    Closing Prayer
Close in prayer thanking God that He always keeps his promises.
Ask Him to help us keep our promises

Optional Activity Game: build  a maze or obstacle course with tables, chairs, pillows, lines of masking tape on the floor, etc. and have the kids pretend they're going on a long journey (through a desert, across rivers and streams, etc. like Abraham and Sarah.

  • Optional Father's Day Craft: Father's day cards:

Fold a piece of paper in half, (Place the fold on top)
Have the kids draw and color a tent on the front,
Cut a slit up the middle (of the top page) of the tent and fold back the edges to make tent flaps,
Write on the inside: "Dad,  pitch your tent on God's promises like Abraham. Happy Father's Day!"
