| Telling the Story: Lay out the Promised Land and Egypt mats as illustrated:

Review last week's lesson:
|
Put 'medicine bottle' silos
in Egypt
Add Joseph next to silos
Joseph's brothers came
to Egypt to buy grain,
Joseph kept it a secret
that he was their brother,
He made one of the
brothers stay in jail in Egypt
-
Make a square of blocks or
Lego's to represent a jail
-
Put a Fisher Price type (or
home made play dough) figure in jail
-
He insisted that if his
other brothers came back to buy food, they had to bring their youngest brother,
Benjamin, with
them.
-
Then his other brothers
returned home to the Promised Land to their father
-
Put some Fisher Price or
similar type figures in the Promised Land.
-
Joseph's brothers had
wives and many children.
-
Let's put the play dough people that you made in the Promised
Land to be their families.
-
Put gingerbread boy and girl
figures in the Promised Land
-
Add farm animals if the
children made them.
Begin this week's
lesson:
-
But the famine in the Promised
land got worse
and worse.
-
The food that Joseph gave to his family was almost gone.
-
Joseph's
brothers had to go back to Egypt to buy more food,
-
This time their youngest brother,
Benjamin, went with them.
-
Let children move figures
along the road to Egypt
-
Leave 1 figure for Joseph's
father and the gingerbread people for the families in the Promised Land.
-
When Joseph's
brothers arrived, he let their brother out of jail and had a special meal for
all of them.
-
Place brothers in front of
Joseph.
-
Remove brother from jail and
place with the others.
-
But he still didn't tell
them he was their brother Joseph.
-
When his brothers got
ready to return home, Joseph played a trick on them.
-
He took his own silver
cup and put it in Benjamin's food sack.
-
He also put all their money back in their sacks.
-
Put some rice or beans in
the scrap of cloth, the 2 pennies, and a wadded up piece of tin foil to be Joseph's cup.
Tie the sack closed with string.
-
Move the brothers toward the
road.
-
Then Joseph sent his
servant after them and told him to accuse them of stealing Joseph's silver cup.
-
The brothers insisted
that they would never steal,
-
But the servant
searched the food sacks and found Joseph's silver cup in Benjamin's bag.
-
The brothers all had to
return to Joseph's house.
-
Return the brother figures
to stand in front of Joseph
-
Joseph's brothers were
very scared.
-
Joseph told them that Benjamin would have to become his slave.
-
His brothers begged
Joseph to let one of them be his slave instead of Joseph.
-
Finally Joseph couldn't
keep his secret any longer.
-
He told his brothers that he was their brother
Joseph.
-
Then he hugged and kissed them all.
-
Joseph told his
brothers that God had shown Pharaoh that the famine was going to last for 5
more years.
-
Joseph told his brothers
to go home, and to bring his father and their wives and all their children and farm
animals back to Egypt to live where there would be food for them.
-
He promised them
the best land in Egypt for them and their farm animals to live in.
-
Then he gave them more
food and sent them all back to the Promised Land.
-
Let the children move the
figures back to the Promised Land.
-
The brothers moved their
father and their families to Egypt and Joseph did give them the best land in Egypt.
Moving to
Egypt Relay Race
-
Tell the kids that they
can help Joseph's brothers move their families to Egypt by having a race.
-
Slide the Egypt mat and the
Promised Land mat to opposite ends of the room.
-
Have the kids line up in 2
lines next to the Egypt mat .
-
|
The first person in each
line runs to the Promised Land, picks up 1 figure, and races back to Egypt and puts the
figure on the Egypt mat.
-
|
Then the next child in line goes.
-
|
The children race
until all of Joseph's family has moved to Egypt.
