  • Telling the Story:

Familiarize yourself with the story of Joseph, Pharaoh, and Pharaoh's dreams in Genesis 39-41

Have the kids put the Promised Land mat in a far away place in the room. Remind them that Joseph was sold far away from home.

Lay out the Egypt mat that the children made for last week's lesson.
    Put Joseph in Egypt
Put the kind Pharaoh figure near the Nile River
Even though Joseph was far away from home, God was taking care of him.
Joseph became the servant of a very important man in Egypt
Place man figure (Fisher Price type or home made play dough man) near Joseph.
But one day the man's wife told a lie about Joseph and poor Joseph was thrown in jail.
Let kids make a jail from blocks and put Joseph in it.
But God was still taking care of Joseph
While Joseph was in jail, God helped Joseph understand the meaning of the dreams that 2 other prisoners had.
Add a man figure (Fisher Price type or home made play dough man) to be fellow prisoner.
Joseph told this prisoner that his dream meant that he would soon be let out of prison and return to his job working for the king.
It happened just as Joseph said.
Move prisoner from jail and put him next to Pharaoh.
One night Pharaoh had 2 dreams.
The next morning he was very upset about them.
Pharaoh sent for all his magicians to find out what the dreams meant.
But not one could tell him they meant.
Finally, the king's helper who had been in prison with Joseph remembered that Joseph had told him about his dream.
He told the king about Joseph.
So the king sent for Joseph
Remove Joseph from jail and place him next to the king.
Pharaoh told Joseph he wanted him to explain his dreams to him.
But Joseph told Pharaoh that no man can explain dreams, only God can.
Then Pharaoh told Joseph his 1'st dream:
He dreamed that he saw 7 fat cows coming out of the Nile River.
Add 7 play dough cows (that the children made earlier) to the bank of the Nile.
Then 7 very skinny cows came out of the river and ate the fat cows. But they were still as skinny as ever.
    Add 7 remaining cows
    Remove fat cows,
