  • Closing Discussion:

  • Close in Prayer:  asking God to help us follow him even when it's hard.

    Telling the Story:
God's people are far away from the Promised Land.
Have the kids put the Promised Land mat in a far away place in the room.
    Add Egypt mat.
God's people live in one part of Egypt on their farms with their animals.
Place some of the play dough people to represent Israelites into one part of Egypt.
Place some of the farm animals near the Israelites,
Add some of the paper foods that the children cut out to be their crops.
The Egyptians lived in another part of Egypt on their own farmland with their own animals.
Add remaining play dough people to represent Egyptians.
Place some farm animals and 'crops' on the Egyptians' side of Egypt.
Pharaoh was very mean to God's people.
    Add Pharaoh figure.
Add some blocks to represent his palace.
He made them work very hard for him as his slaves.
Last week we learned that God gave Moses 2 important jobs.
Add Moses figure to Egypt.  (if you made him a flip figure, use his shepherd side).
Does anyone remember what 2 important jobs God gave Moses to do?
Review: Tell Pharaoh, "Let my people go."   and
Lead my people to the Promised Land.
After God talked to Moses in the burning bush, Moses did go to see Pharaoh.
But Moses didn't go alone.  God told Moses that his brother Aaron could go with him.
Place Fisher Price or similar type man figure next to Moses.
Moses and Aaron went together to see Pharaoh.
Walk the 2 figures to Pharaoh.
They told Pharaoh what God said,
Let the children be their voices telling Pharaoh, "Let my people go!"
But Pharaoh would not listen to Moses and Aaron.
So Moses warned Pharaoh that God would turn all the water to blood.
    But Pharaoh would not listen.
So God turned the water to blood.
Have the kids cover the Nile with the red dots they made earlier.
Then Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh and Moses prayed to the Lord.
Walk Moses and Aaron figures away.
Again God told Moses to go to Pharaoh and give him the message,
direct kids to say, "Let my people go!"
    But Pharaoh would not listen.
This time Moses warned Pharaoh that God would fill the whole land with frogs.
Do you think Pharaoh listened  this time?
No he didn't.  And God filled the whole land with frogs.  There were even frogs in Pharaoh's bed.
Have the kids cover the land with the green dots.
But Pharaoh still would not let God's people go.
So God told Moses to warn Pharaoh that if Pharaoh didn't let God's people go, He would fill the land with gnats.
But Pharaoh still wouldn't listen and God filled the land with gnats.
Have the kids cover the land with the gray dots.
Option:  Kids can pretend to brush gnats away from their heads, arms and legs like the Egyptians would have.
But Pharaoh still wouldn't let God's people go.
So God told Moses to warn Pharaoh that he would fill the land with flies.
    And God sent flies
    Add black dots.
But Pharaoh still would not obey God.
Then God made the Egyptians' farm animals get sick
Turn the Egyptians' farm animals on their sides.
But the animals belonging to God's people didn't get sick.
Point to the Israelites' farm animals.
But still Pharaoh would not obey God.
Then Moses warned Pharaoh that people would get sick if he didn't let God's people go.
But still Pharaoh would not listen.
Turn the Egyptian people on their sides.
Point out that God's people didn't get sick.
Do you think Pharaoh listened yet?
    Not even yet.
So Moses warned Pharaoh that God was going to send a hail storm so terrible that it would destroy their crops.
But Pharaoh still refused to obey God.
Have kids stand up and stomp with their feet, pretending that their feet are the hail stones.
Tear up some of the food pictures on the Egyptians' side of the mat.
Point out that there was no hail storm where God's people lived and that their food was not destroyed.
Not even this made Pharaoh obey God.  So God sent locusts.
Add light green or yellow dots.
The locusts ate the rest of the Egyptians' food.
Tear up more of the food pictures on the Egyptians' side of the mat.
But Pharaoh would not let God's people go.
God even sent darkness.  It was completely dark in the land of Egypt for 3 days.
Point out that God's people had light where they lived.
But Pharaoh would not obey God even after all the terrible things that happened.
How do you think Moses felt when Pharaoh would not listen?
Discuss how hard it is when people won't listen to us.
Discuss  things that kids are expected to do that they find hard.
