Set aside each house to use in the story.

  • Action Game: Odd Chair Out - a variation on musical chairs.
Have a row of chairs with enough chairs for all but 1 child.
Place one more chair across from the row of chairs by itself.
The children march around all the chairs while you play music.
When the music stops the children try to get in one of the chairs in the row.
The object of the game is to not have to sit in the odd chair.

    Closing Discussion

  • Close in Prayer  thanking God that Jesus showed us that He is God by making sick people well.

    Telling the Story:
How did you feel in our game when you got the odd chair?
    Disappointed, all by myself, etc.
Today we're going to hear a story about someone who had to live all by himself all the time.
He couldn't ever go home to his house and his family.
    Imagine how that would feel.
Let's listen to the story to find out why he had to live away from his family.
Last week we learned that Jesus calmed the stormy sea.
Today we're going to learn that Jesus shows He is God by making sick people well.
Lay out the Promised Land mat
Let's put the houses that you made right here.
Put all the Lego houses next to the Sea of Galilee.
Let's put some people in our town next to some of the houses.
Place all the Fisher Price figures except the man with the leper spots next to a house.
But there was one man who should have lived in the town with the other people, but he wasn't allowed to live there.
Show the children the figure with the leper spots.
He was a very sick man.
He had a terrible skin disease called leprosy that no one could cure.
People with leprosy had to live outside of town away from the townspeople.
If they got too near a healthy person, they could give that person their terrible disease.
So they could never go home to their family.
Perhaps this man lived in a cave among the rocks.
Put 2 or 3 rocks together away from the town.
So let's put this man over here.
Place the leper next to the rocks.
Jesus came to a town like this to teach people about God.
Place Jesus figure next to the town.
Gather the Fisher Price or similar type figures around him.
The man with leprosy heard that Jesus was in town.
He knew that Jesus could make sick people well.
So he came to town to see Jesus.
    Walk leper figure to Jesus.
He bowed face down in front of Jesus and begged him,
"Lord, heal me. I know you can if you want to."*
Place leper figure on his face.
Jesus said, "I want to. Be healed!"*
Then Jesus touched the man and immediately his terrible skin disease went away.
Touch  the Jesus figure to the leper figure.
Remove the bits of label from the leper figure.
Jesus told him to not tell anyone that he had healed him.
But the man told everyone, everywhere he went.
And so many crowds of people came to see Jesus that Jesus had to stay outside of the towns in the hills by himself at night.
How would you have felt if you had been the sick man and had to stay away from other people?
If you had been the sick man would you have been able to keep it a secret that Jesus had made you well?
Why do you think Jesus asked him not to tell anyone?
Why could Jesus make the man well?
Because He is God. He made people and He made all things.
